The story of MannaBrew starts in South Africa, deep in the heart of the crew in a small town called Prieska. It is here on the banks of the mighty orange river where farmlands are being taken over by thousands of invasive thorn trees known as mesquite trees. While most local people regard these trees as a nuisance, one family has discovered that the deep yellow seed pods that grow on these trees are in fact an amazing superfood. But what does one do with an abundance of a superfood in the middle of nowhere? Well, each year a small window of only two to three weeks allows us to harvest a year's supply of the mesquite seed pods before the summer rains start to fall but this small harvesting window brings a smile to the faces of the locals in this poverty-stricken karoo town. For these people it's an opportunity to go into the field and collect the parts which are then purchased from them according to the weight they have collected. This helps to provide them with seasonal work and supports their local economy. The pods are sorted by hand to ensure they are of the highest quality before being weighed put into bags and transported to Somerset West, in the western cape province of South Africa. When the pods arrive at the MannaBrew processing plant they are sorted once more before being roasted, milled and blended into the perfect ground consistency so that it can be brewed using almost any type of coffee making instrument. The slow roasting process brings out the natural sweetness and unique flavors of this superfood from nature. The blended mesquite espresso is packed in specially made bags to secure a long shelf life. The packaging is 100 biodegradable and recyclable. Now it is ready to be enjoyed. MannaBrew contains no caffeine but the essential sugars from the mesquite beans are known to energize and uplift like caffeinated coffee but without the negative side effects. Once you have tasted MannaBrew everything else might taste a bit bland in comparison.

The MannaBrew Impact

Every flavor note carries a legacy
The Story is in The Numbers
Stopping the Spread
A single 226g MannaBrew box holds approximately 75 Mesquite seed pods, totalling about 1125 seeds. Research reveals that an average of 35% of these seeds sprout within the first year. Consequently, every MannaBrew box has the capacity to thwart the invasion of 393 new trees into precious farmland within a year. This impact multiplies significantly as each Mesquite tree generates more seeds, presenting a potent strategy for curbing the expansion of this invasive species and safeguarding agricultural land for years to come.
Water Conservation
A typical Mesquite tree (2.5 to 3.5 meters in height) consumes approximately 60 liters per day. By choosing MannaBrew (per 226 g box / 8 ounce), you contribute to conserving about 8 million liters of vital underground water annually, significantly reducing the strain on this precious resource.
Generating Employment
The annual harvesting of Mesquite seedpods engages around a thousand people. This holds great significance as the Northern Cape, the harvesting region, grapples with a staggering 40%
unemployment rate. Savouring MannaBrew isn't just about a wholesome beverage; it's about preserving the Northern Cape's ecosystem and transforming the fortunes of innumerable harvesters. Each purchase carries the dual benefit of supporting ecological conservation and alleviating unemployment, underlining the positive impact of your choice in the grand tapestry of lives and the environment.
